Well on July 4th i competed at the NOS center in San Bernardino for the Megan Racing Drift Invitational. This event was pretty unique to me most of the drivers were from the old drift buffet days so it was kinda like a reunion of sorts which made for some really exciting battles. Only drawback to this event was the the outside temperatures being in the triple digits, i could do about one run and my car would climb up to 100C! But even considering the car problems i still somehow managed to qualify 3rd but my confidence was short lived getting knocked out by mike essa in the top 8.. i’m coming for you next time mikey!! I’d like to thank Megan Racing for organizing this event and putting it on i can’t wait to run the next one!!

CHINA CHINA CHINA

In about a little less than a month now i will be on a plane again to go compete in China for the 2009 World Drift Series. This trip has to be the most exciting part of the year for me, with all of the drivers being friends and going out there to have fun it really is amazing and i can’t wait to get out there! You guys can be certain that Larry Chen will make another video that should be even crazier than last years!

So it’s been awhile since i’ve updated here, but i guess better late than never. With that being said i’d like to fill you guys in on what i’ve been up to.

For the most part i’ve been driving every thursday night at Adams Motorsport Park and man it’s been fun. So many crazy things have been happening there it’s awesome. Having the likes of local heros ( Sam Greenwood, Charles Ng, Jun, and i guess you could consider myself to name a few) to having professional drivers come out (Sam Hubinette, Patrick Mordaunt, Calvin Wan, Ross Petty, Casper Canul) really brings a neat atmosphere to the venue .The demo runs at the end of the night every week are soo much fun to be a part of, giving alot of ride alongs and just getting crazy. i would like to thank Troy Adams, Riley Cahill, and Wesley Jackson for making that whole venue possible, and all of the hard work they put into it each and every single week! If any of you are free on a thursday night, this is the place to be!

So a few weeks back me and the demo team i’m on did a demo for the ASA stock car races at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino, CA . I love coming out and doing demos at this venue, the vibe i get from going there is just awesome. As i stated in my previous entry, this was the place that i learned how to drive and met alot of my friends i have in my life now, so it’s very special to me. Not too mention that it’s pretty rare to have drift events there so i cherish it each and every time i drive there. Sorry for the side track haha anyways back to the demo. The show went really well, with every driver being top notch(Mike Essa, Matt Powers, Tommy Roberts, Jeff Jones, Mickie Frail, Carl Rydquist to name few) , the crowd got a spectacular show and they knew it. During the final demo session Carl, MIke and myself got together and formed our “team” for the session, which payed out well because we won first place in crowds hearts and got a plaque for it !

Big thanks to Naoki from Drift Day for the awesome opportunity to drive at my favorite venue, Ross and George for media coverage, and of course the folks at the NOS center for having us come out!

Well this past saturday i headed down to the Perris Speedway for Inland Drift’s opening event at their new venue! This venue is pretty cool, it has some decent speed level (top of 2nd to mid 3rd gear) and the krails is definitely an added bonus. Huge thanks to Mark and Rudy for letting me come out and take some runs out there!

First of all i want to thank the staff here at EverythingDrift for giving me this little spot of paradise on the internet to talk about the stuff that’s currently going on with me and my driving efforts and other stuff that comes along from here on out!

So a little history on me, i’ve been driving for about 2.5 years now and man has it gone by fast! I remember when i first purchased my 1990 Nissan 240sx like it was yesterday.

my old 240sx

It came equipped with your basic bolt on drift goodies: coilovers, vlsd, rear sway bar, strut tower bars, bucket seat, steering wheel, old school enkei meshies, and a CD player(super important) i actually took it out that night and started sliding. Unfortunately street drifting didn’t pan out so well for me…about 4 days after i had the car i had gotten arrested for “reckless driving on private property” and got my car impounded and almost lost my license! But i wasn’t too unlucky, i was able to pull some strings and kept my license and didn’t get anything on my record.

By having this run in with law was actually a good thing. It showed me that this wasn’t the correct way to approach drifting and that i should take it to orgainzed events and let loose there without any of the stress or consequences that come with illegal street drifting.

So i started running at local events called Drift Buffet and started to hone my skills there. By running the events every month i was able to land a spot on their demo team (which gave me more seat time) and then started running the DB competition series as well.

I did pretty well in this series and by doing so i was invited to go compete in China in the World Drift Series with a few other hand picked fellow competitors and a few FD drivers. I was able to do pretty well considering the cars that were given to us to drive weren’t on the level as our competitors had, but i made the most of it and just drove my best. Making top 8 in beijing and top 16 in Hangzhou.

So i’m going to back track a couple months before i went to china and talk about how i got my r33.

I was approached by a friend of a friend who was already driving for him who had this car laying around in storage. He offered the car to me to drive for him and at first i declined, since it is such a pretty car and me not fully trusting my skills at the time. But he offered it to me again, and it was alot nicer car than mine was and it was more competitive than mine was so i said what the hell and started driving for him. A few months after the china trip the owner lost interest and i purchased the car off of him. With having this car now there was no need to have 2 drift cars so i sold my 240 and started upgrading my r33 and started participating in other events.

So pretty much all of last year i didn’t really get to drive that much. I mainly ran the Just Drift Top Drift series and a few other events and demos. I also went back to china again, which was a much better experience than last year in almost every way possible. The driving skill was way higher than the previous year (mainly all FD drivers and even Japanese D1 drivers, and of course China’s best) i drove a supercharged ae86 corolla which was an absolute blast to drive! The trip was also shorter than the previous one due to it only being one event, but i’m going to say it again it was absolutely epic. I was able to go up against Dart Izumi, Jr. ,who happens to be one of my favorite drivers ever. The battle between me and Dart was during top 8 and man it was epic. He was also driving an ae86 corolla, and it was his personal car so Iknew that this match was going to be tough. But with that aside we both saddled up and hit the course, destroying bumpers, getting door to door, just getting sick with it and it was absolutely the best time i’ve had drifting ever. We went one more time and him beatin gme by a small margin but none the less i just felt honored to drive with one of my idols and have such a good match.

With another china experience under my belt and behind me, we are now in the year 2009 and it’s looking to be a bright one. I’ve been driving pretty frequently recently and it’s starting to show . A couple weeks back there was a D1 Underground event at the Adams Kart Track in Riverside, CA and runing there i was able to obtain my provisional D1 license!

I’m very excited for the remainder of this year so stay tuned for more news and mayhem!!!!
